Johnny Turner- Anchor Stone & Blue Note

Brick Bay is proud to exhibit two new works by Wellington based sculptor Johnny Turner. Turner has a true passion for hand working volcanic rock and metamorphic stone, transforming materials of immense weight and scale into elegantly balanced and precisely polished surfaces. 'Blue Note' is sculpted in the form of a tuning fork. A receptor or frame for the ever changing sights, sounds and silences of life.  In 'Anchor Stone' Turner's intention is to create a 'mehir' (French: maen-stone, hir-long) that operates as a marker or post. A symbolic connection for 'mooring', or resting at a site or home. A stimulus for the idea came from viewing a cast-iron bollard, worn by centuries of ship ropes at Battery Park, Manhattan, New York.
