Explore the annual Brick Bay Folly projects which have been inspired by a quirky interpretation of an architectural ‘structure’ and challenge new architects to stretch wide their imagination.

In architecture, a folly is an experimental structure that lacks practical purpose, and instead, bridges the gap between art and architecture. The Brick Bay Folly Project began in 2015 with the first winning structure Belly of the Beast opening to the public in March 2015. Every year since a new folly has been installed - each one unique and original.

The 2023 winner Te Reo o te Hau (Voice of the Kokohau) has now opened to the public - click the tile below to read more information about this incredible new folly. The call for entries is currently open for the Folly 2024 competition - entries are due June 12th. Click here to view the competition details and submit your entry!
