McCracken takes the vernacular utilitarian object, such as a rubber tread or fan belt and turns it into the monumental.
Sculptor David McCracken mounted his first solo exhibition in 2000 and has been exhibiting throughout the the country and internationally since. His works are primarily fabricated steel, namely stainless steel and corten steel. McCracken saw the potential of steel fabrication for prodcuing art from readily available and inexpensive scrap metal. He has also experimented using a variety of materials including river rocks, synthetic hair, bronze and found objects.
