Phil Price began creating sculpture using high performance plastics in the 1980's. During this time he was also working in the cycle industry, designing and making bicycles and wheels for racers. This experience included working with John Britten, motorcycle designer. Merging the lines of work lead to the kinetic sculpture for which the artist is now renowned.
Price was born in 1965 in Nelson. He gained his BFA in Sculpture in 1990 at Canterbury School of Fine Arts in Christchurch where he now resides. He has exhibited throughout New Zealand as well as in significant shows in Australia and Denmark. His work is represented in both public and private Australasian collections. Notable public pieces can be found at City Mall, and Riccarton Library in Christchurch, on Cobham Drive and lambton Quay in Wellington, at Connells Bay Sculpture Park on Waiheke Island, in Auckland Viaduct and McClelland Sculpture Park in Melbourne.
