BRICK BAY FOLLY 2025: TOP 5 entries revealed!

Every year, the Brick Bay Folly competition attracts a wealth of imaginative entries. This year's contest was no exception and we are excited to announce the finalists. Congratulations to these top 5 teams for submitting outstanding designs!

  • Kōmaru by Youngi Kim and Eunjung Kim

  • Putaputawētā by Clara Hanssen, Jade Myburgh and Brendan Buckle

  • Te kākā whakaangi i te tā by James Holyoake, Brendan Murphy and Titan Li

  • Whakapiri o te tangata by Mikala Watene, Saige de Souza and Angel Qiu

  • Yellow Post by George Culling, Oliver Prisk, Andre Vachias and Henry Mabin

With the moveable canopies of Kōmaru, the super-sized weta hotels of Putaputawētā, the striking canopy of colour in Te kākā whakaangi i te tā, the exploration of pōhutukawa in Whakapiri o te tangata, and the bold latticed hākari of Yellow Post, the top five teams’ designs demonstrate an abundance of curiosity and creativity.

Congratulations to each of the finalists - each of these designs explored a unique perspective or concept which gave it an edge and strong appeal to the judges. Read more about the designs in the article by judge and deputy editor Amanda Harkness by picking up a copy of the Sep/Oct print issue of Architecture NZ or view on their online platform Architecture NOW here.

We would like to say a huge thank you to all the teams that entered this year; as always, there was a brilliant range of designs entered which provided a rich discussion for the judges and reflects the growing reputation of the Brick Bay Folly competition. The winning team will be announced next year, with an opening celebration planned for May 2025. Keep an eye on Brick Bay social media channels to know about the winner as soon as it goes public!
