The Nohonga (seat) design challenge is a new collaboration between Brick Bay, Britomart and the Auckland Branch of the New Zealand Institute of Landscape Architects Tuia Pito Ora, challenging students and all levels of graduated landscape architects to design and construct creative nohonga for the people of Tāmaki Makaurau.
Brick Bay’s successful ‘Folly’ competition has stimulated the imaginations of architecture students and graduates since 2015. With the inaugural Nohonga (seat) design challenge established in 2020, the attention turned to landscape architects to make their mark on Auckland’s urban landscape and contribute to the generation of unique and exciting public spaces. The winning designs were exhibited in two locations - Britomart and Brick Bay - allowing for the relationship of the nohonga with both urban and natural settings. The design challenge has been established as a biennial competition and we are excited to have the winners of the 2022 competition round now on the sculpture trail.
We’re grateful for the support of the competition sponsors - Britomart and Resene. To learn more about the competition, view the video story and image tile below.
